Unknown tracker alerts: a feature locked away in Google-land?
With this recent blog post, Google highlighted Android’s new capability to detect Bluetooth-powered trackers and one thing showcased is its manual scan feature and while Apple previously published its Tracker Detect app on the Play Store in late-2021 for AirTag-compatible devices, Google’s initiative might be driven by the development of joint-specification of such devices in which Apple had its input. However, taking advantage of it is hindered by the feature’s discoverability in the Android world, regardless of Google’s intention....
A half measure to treat NTFS errors
How do you correct when a drive is corrupted? Simply go to drive Properties, from Tools tab select the option to scan for errors and then use the dialogue that comes up if any error is found or, better yet, find the dialogue through your desktop notifications when you plug in your disk. But these are simply not possible on a Linux-based system if your filesystem of choice is NTFS....
A seat at the table
Growing up I do not think other people’s idea of ‘a seat at the table’ resonated with me. Coming from a family with both parents working full-time has meant that I have had to have most of my meals at least in the past decade alone. This changed dramatically several years back sometime after I had started university and became more outgoing. And while Sony phones and the more relatively recently launched Asus Zenfone 9 device still feature it and most lower-end phones still have it, Google decided to do away with it even on Pixel A series not too long after releasing this ad....
A stranger in a strange land
I must say that after moving to a city in another country at the middle of a course has proved to be quite challenging. As my expectations had been unrealistic, I have been met with a near constant dread of going though this final year alone. But that is not too far from how things have since been. I tried connecting with my flatmates, tried doing a bunch of different activities with very different people and even met a whole lot of people doing various courses at those things....
Simple Keyboard: a keyboard that doesn't have to try
Simple Keyboard is a keyboard app for Android OS based on the AOSP Keyboard. It is available on both F-Droid repository and Google Play Store. Also, its APK can be directly grabbed from the project’s Github releases page here. One of the reasons I switched to this keyboard had been that at the time I used to use Hacker’s Keyboard and wanted to try out something else. But one of the phones I had been using was this Samsung Galaxy running Android 4....
